City of Alameda


The City of Alameda contracts with Alameda County Industries (ACI) for garbage, recyclables and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection service.

Weekly pick-up of one 96-gallon recycling cart, and one 96-gallon food scraps & plant debris cart is provided at no extra charge to commercial garbage customers. Additional recycling and food scraps & plant debris collection services above 96-gallon weekly service costs 20% less than the equivalent volume of garbage service. ACI provides free onsite waste and recycling assessments upon request.

City of Albany


The City of Albany contracts with Waste Management of Alameda County for garbage, recyclables and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection service.

Recycling collection is provided at no additional charge to commercial garbage collection customers. Food scraps & plant debris collection costs 50% less than the equivalent volume of garbage collection. Waste Management provides free onsite waste and recycling assessments upon request.

City of Berkeley


The City of Berkeley provides all commercial wet garbage and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection services. “Dry rubbish”—meaning garbage with NO food or wet items— and commercial recyclables are picked up by city and city approved haulers.

Castro Valley Sanitary District


The Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) has “opted out” of ACWMA Ordinance #2012-01. However, all commercial accounts subscribing to 4 or more cubic yards of refuse collection service per week anywhere in California are subject to State Law and regulations mandating recycling service, as well as CVSan mandatory recycling rules.

CVSan contracts with Waste Management of Alameda County for garbage, recyclables and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection service.

Free onsite waste and recycling assessments are available upon request.

City of Dublin

City of Emeryville


The City of Emeryville contracts with Waste Management of Alameda County for garbage, recyclables and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection services.

Weekly pick-up of 264 gallons of recyclables and organics (200 gallons = 1 yard) is provided at no extra charge to commercial customers with two (2) cubic yards of garbage per week or less. Customers may elect any combination of containers for this free service.

Commercial accounts with more than two (2) cubic yards of weekly trash service receive a 50% discount for recycling and composting service.

City of Fremont


The City of Fremont contracts with Allied Waste Services for garbage, recyclables and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection service.

Two primary service options are available to help commercial customers comply with new Mandatory Recycling ordinances. Customers can select a separated recycling option and place basic recyclables in a designated recycling container with a landfill bin used for all of the remaining materials. Customers also have the option of placing all dry waste into a designated Dry Waste Bin that will be sort for recycling material at the Fremont Recycling Facility. Wet and non-recoverable material should be placed into the landfill bin. The City of Fremont provides free onsite waste and recycling assessments upon request. City of Oakland

The City of Oakland contracts with Waste Management of Alameda County for all garbage services. However, this exclusive contract does not extend to recycling, food scraps & plant debris services for businesses and institutions. Oakland businesses are free to make arrangements for recycling with any recycling service provider. The City of Oakland provides discounted recycling services to small businesses generating up to two (2) 96-gallon carts per week of mixed recyclables & unlimited cardboard through an arrangement with Waste Management of Alameda County and California Waste Solutions.

Oro Loma Sanitary District

(Serving San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, Fairview, and parts of San Leandro and Hayward)

The Oro Loma Sanitary District has “opted out” of ACWMA Ordinance #2012-01 for the parts of the District that do not fall in San Leandro or Hayward. However, all commercial accounts subscribing to 4 or more cubic yards of refuse collection service per week anywhere in California are subject to State Law and regulations mandating recycling service.

Those portions of the District that fall in either San Leandro or Hayward are subject to the local ordinance mandating recycling.

Oro Loma Sanitary District contracts with Waste Management of Alameda County for garbage, recycling and organics (food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings) collection service. Waste Management provides free onsite waste and recycling assessments upon request.

City of Pleasanton


The City of Pleasanton originally opted out of Ordinance 2012-01, but later opted back in, resulting in a different implementation schedule in Pleasanton. The ordinance is effective for covered accounts in Pleasanton on March 1, 2013, and enforcement actions begin September 1, 2013. In the meantime, all commercial accounts subscribing to 4 or more cubic yards of refuse collection service per week anywhere in California are subject to State Law and regulations mandating recycling service effective July 1, 2012.

Properties located in parts of San Leandro may be in the service area of the Oro Loma Sanitary District. If you are unsure which service area you are in, check your garbage bill. If the vendor is Waste Management of Alameda County, you are in the Oro Loma Sanitary District. If the vendor is Alameda County Industries (ACI), you are in the service area of the City of San Leandro.
